Is it right to create a tissue-donor baby?

This debate took place on Thursday 16 October 2003 at the Guardian Newsroom in London

In the summer of 2003, James Whitaker became the first British baby born after embryo screening with tissue typing. At the same time, the Mr and Mrs Hashmi were having their own 'saviour sibling' treatment in the UK. Is it right to create a baby for the benefit of someone else? This event brings together some of the most influential voices from opposite sides of this topical debate.
