Dr Caroline Fertleman

Caroline Fertleman

Dr Caroline Fertleman was formerly a Trustee at the Progress Educational Trust (PET), and is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Whittington Hospital where she is the lead for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, for the paediatric ambulatory care unit, and for child protection training. She is also a Training Programme Director at London Deanery, a Consultant in Medical Education at University College London (UCL)'s Institute of Child Health, an Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL's Medical School, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has won a number of awards over the course of her career, and was the first recipient of the Saad al-Damluji Award, given for her outstanding clinical teaching. Prior to receiving her MD from the University of Cambridge, she undertook Wellcome Trust supported research into molecular genetic analysis of paroxysmal extreme pain disorder. Her team found nine causative mutations in the sodium channel gene, leading to a number of peer-reviewed publications. In addition to writing for journals, she has also written several books for the lay public, and is coauthor (with Simone Cave) of Baby to Toddler Month By Month (buy this book from Amazon UK or Amazon USA) and Your Baby Week by Week: The Ultimate Guide to Caring for Your New Baby (buy this book from Amazon UK or Amazon USA). She has a long-suffering husband, three children, three cats, two dogs, and a large stash of yarn for knitting.
