Dr Caroline Fertleman was formerly a Trustee at the Progress Educational Trust (PET), and is a Consultant Paediatrician at the Whittington Hospital where she is the lead for undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, for the paediatric ambulatory care unit, and for child protection training. She is also a Training Programme Director at London Deanery, a Consultant in Medical Education at University College London (UCL)'s Institute of Child Health, an Honorary Senior Lecturer at UCL's Medical School, and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She has won a number of awards over the course of her career, and was the first recipient of the Saad al-Damluji Award, given for her outstanding clinical teaching. Prior to receiving her MD from the University of Cambridge, she undertook Wellcome Trust supported research into molecular genetic analysis of paroxysmal extreme pain disorder. Her team found nine causative mutations in the sodium channel gene, leading to a number of peer-reviewed publications.
