Our friends at the Science Museum hosted the first ever festive edition of their popular Lates series, with the inaugural 'Science Museum Christmas Lates'. The event was a great success, and saw more than 1,700 people attend to explore the science of Christmas.
PET's exhibition – 'DNA Tests: The Present that Reveals Your Past... and Your Future' – explored the science, and the potential hazards, of direct-to-consumer DNA testing.
We also delved into the BioNews archives and shared a range of eye-opening articles on the subject, including as 'What not to buy for Christmas' by Sara Levene and 'Ancestry test for Christmas? Why some people are converting to Judaism' by Dr Jonathan Romain.
We were joined for the festivities by PET Trustee Professor Frances Flinter and former BioNews editor and geneticist Dr Jess Buxton, plus our brilliant volunteers Jen Willows and Olivia Goff. They very kindly shared their expertise with our guests, and may have persuaded some of them to rethink the idea of buying a genetic test for a loved one this Christmas.
It was a fantastic evening filled with festive fun, and we hope to see the return of Science Museum Christmas Lates in 2025!
