Musical enjoyment has been linked partly to genetic makeup. Published in Nature Communications, a study in over 9000 twins found genetic factors that contributed 54 percent to the variability in music appreciation.
An international team of scientists led by the Max Planck Institute of Psycholinguistics in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, found that the genes associated with musical enjoyment are partially distinct from those for general reward sensitivity or musical perception.
