According to an article in Glasgow Live, a Glasgow woman has pretended to be pregnant in a £10,000 surrogacy scam.
The 'surrogate', Louise Kimmet, initially advertised her service as a surrogate and entered into an agreement with the couple. She then lied to the intended parents, leading to them handing over the initial surrogacy fee of £1000 for ongoing expenses relating to the pregnancy.
Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Kimmet pretended to go for ultrasound scans and to be 'experiencing symptoms of pregnancy'.
Prosecutors have stated that Kimmet obtained £1000 by fraud, after the intended parents discovered that she was not pregnant. Kimmet has admitted to a single charge of fraud, with sentencing deferred pending background reports next month.
