Peter Taylor is a trustee of the Progress Educational Trust (PET), an NHS commissioner heading the sexual and reproductive health programmes for Kingston Public Health and NHS Kingston CCG, and a member of the National Infertility Awareness Campaign's Committee. He began his career as a commissioner in the North East of England, where he led on a range of service reforms and held a diverse portfolio including Assisted Conception and Fertility Preservation, Sexual Health, Urology and Gynaecology. During this time, undertook a Department of Health programme looking at the potential of NHS payment tariffs for regulated fertility services.
He has also worked as Head of Market Policy at NHS London and as a Senior Policy Adviser at the Cooperation and Competition Panel for NHS-Funded Services, where he was involved in many aspects of the Health and Social Care Act and the changing architecture of commissioning in the NHS. He was a member of the Guideline Development Group that oversaw the update of the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)'s Clinical Guideline Fertility: Assessment and Treatment for People with Fertility Problems.
