Female tennis players who choose to take time away from playing to freeze their eggs or have fertility treatment can now do so without it affecting their ranking.
The Women's Tennis Association (WTA) has made the change for players ranking in the top 750 who are away for more than 12 weeks.
'We want to really help players address this conundrum where peak athletic performance coincides with the time period of peak fertility, so players are often faced with this tough choice of how to really maximise and optimise those years,' said Portia Archer, chief executive of the WTA.
