Some gene therapies and immunotherapies appear to be more effective in men than in women, or have fewer side effects.
Women's immune systems are generally more reactive than men's. Dr Alison Clare, a researcher from the University of Bristol whose work focuses on sight loss, tried to discover how this affects patients' response to gene therapies.
