Malcolm Fallen announced his decision to give up his job as finance director of British Biotech, the troubled drugs developer. The board of British Biotech has appointed Tony Weir, the company secretary and finance director of the pharmaceuticals subsidiary, to succeed Fallen. The company is currently embroiled in a legal row with its former head of clinical trials, Andrew Millar. DuPont, the US chemical company which is rapidly transforming itself from a chemicals to a life sciences group, is buying the outstanding 80 percent of the world's largest seed business, Pioneer Hi-Bred. The investment shows that the controversy in Europe over genetically modified foods is not deterring large biotech and agribusiness firms from pouring money into this sector.
