The UK's Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has announced that Dr Maureen Dalziel, Chief Executive of the authority will step down with effect from today.
In a statement issued earlier today, the HFEA said that 'following a unanimous vote of no confidence by its members, the Chairman of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, Ms Suzi Leather, has decided to ask Dr. Maureen Dalziel to step down as Chief Executive'.
Commenting on the decision, Ms Leather said 'I am not at liberty to discuss the vote of no confidence, but I can assure you that there are no implications of personal impropriety and the matter is not related to the Authority's investigation of incidents at licensed centres'. Ms Angela McNab will act as Chief Executive on an interim basis until a new appointment is made.
