UK fertility patients face significant cost disparities, a lack of transparency and of trustworthy information, according to a new study published in Human Fertility by researchers at Queen Mary University of London (QMUL).
Fertility treatment in England is controlled by integrated care boards and is subject to a postcode lottery (see BioNews 1120 and 1224). Professor Manuela Perrotta, from QMUL, who led the research wrote: 'This has led to significant regional variation in the availability of funded IVF cycles, with many offering only partial or reduced cycles instead'.
