Priscilla Eatwell, the 56-year old grandmother who was in the news last month after placing advertisements for an egg donor, may now have found a woman to help her have a fourth child. The UK's Daily Mail newspaper reports that Sharon Cave, a 35-year old mother of two from Bournemouth, has volunteered and has already undergone tests to see if she is a suitable donor. Because of her age, Mrs Eatwell and her 69-year old husband had been unable to find a clinician in the UK who would be willing to provide them with IVF treatment. There is no national law in the UK setting a maximum age for fertility treatment; instead each UK fertility clinic enforces their own upper age limit.
Mrs Eatwell has found an Italian clinic, reportedly that of Dr Severino Antinori, which has agreed to treat her as long as she can provide a suitable donor. Dr Antinori hit the headlines in 1994 after helping 62-year old Rosanna Della Corte have a baby son with her 63-year old husband, thereby becoming the oldest mother on record. Other women aged 62 have since equalled this record, also using IVF with donor eggs.
