Patients born female who want to transition may get their eggs frozen for free on the NHS.
However, women who are waiting to have a baby – due to work pressures or because they are not in a relationship – are not offered this treatment on the NHS, and have to freeze their eggs privately, should they wish.
Rules on access to NHS funding for fertility treatments, including egg freezing, vary across the 42 Integrated Care Boards in the UK.
