Pharmaceutical company Novartis and the Daily Telegraph newspaper launched Visions of Science last week, a new competition that aims to seek out 'the cream of modern science photography'. Pictures, which must be submitted by the end of July 2000, should depict a scientific or medical advance, or simply portray science in an original way.
There are four categories in the competition: professional photographers, amateur photographers, scientists/healthcare professionals and under-25s. Winners will receive Kodak digital cameras, and have their photos displayed in the Royal Society in London. The panel of judges, which includes Sir Aaron Klug, president of the Royal Society and Professor Susan Greenfield, head of the Royal Institution, will announce the winning entries this autumn.
