The English government has announced that it will be introducing newborn screening for hereditary tyrosinaemia type 1.
Tyrosinaemia type 1 is a rare genetic condition that can damage the liver, kidneys and the nervous system if it is not identified and treated quickly.
Tyrosinaemia type 1 will be added to the conditions screened for by the NHS Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programme in England as recommended by the UK National Screening Committee.
