The main opposition party in Poland has launched a campaign to pass a bill to reinstate state IVF funding in the country.
Using a citizen's legislative initiative, if the bill can get the signatures of at least 100,000 citizens then it must be considered by parliament, Notes from Poland reported. The Civic Platform party behind the campaign has proposed channeling 500 million zloty (£90,200,000) a year towards IVF.
'The IVF procedure sounds dry, like a scientific term,' said Donald Tusk, leader of the centrist Civic Platform party. 'After many years, I have understood that behind these words there are not procedures, but life, love and the dreams of thousands of Polish women and men.'
State IVF funding in Poland was scrapped a few weeks after the current Government came to power in 2015 claiming insufficient funding (see BioNews 1160).
