An analysis of 51 observational studies has shown that women with adenomyosis have a higher miscarriage rate and lower pregnancy rate than those without.
Researchers from Birmingham and Oxford presented a poster and abstract at the 40th annual meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Amsterdam.
It showed women with adenomyosis experienced a 51 percent higher miscarriage rate, and a live birth rate 44 percent lower than women without the condition. They also had lower pregnancy rates with analysis showing a 22 percent lower chance of implantation, and 13 percent lower chance of pregnancy being detected using ultrasound.
This research has not yet been peer-reviewed and previously research into a link between adenomyosis and infertility has been conflicting.
