A man from Consett in County Durham has spoken about donating stem cells to a child in Australia after being matched through the DKMS donor register.
Kam Saundh said he would happily donate again following the procedure carried out in London in May 2025 after he was contacted when a match was found. Saundh was not told the identity of the recipient at the time of donation. He later learned the recipient was a young boy in Australia.
Under donor rules, communication between donor and recipient is initially anonymous for a period of up to two years following donation, subject to mutual agreement.
People can join the blood cancer charity DKMS UK's register or Anthony Nolan's stem cell register, or the NHS' stem cell donor registry.
