A woman from Vienna, Austria has launched a legal challenge that could lead to reform of Austria's laws on egg-freezing, currently some of the strictest in Europe.
At present, women are only allowed to freeze their eggs if they have a medical condition that threatens their fertility. So-called 'social egg-freezing', for electively delaying parenthood, is prohibited.
The woman argues that Austria's current policy violates her right to private and family life, which is protected by the Austrian Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights.
