A report from Belgium's Advisory Committee on Bioethics says that anyone who cannot bear their own child should have access to surrogacy, which is currently rare in the country.
The report says surrogacy should be treated 'as a medically assisted reproduction, like the other medically assisted reproductions, for which there is financial support'.
However, they also stress that the surrogate's bodily autonomy must be respected and that Belgium should only permit unpaid 'altruistic' surrogacy.
