Belgian health minister Frank Vandenbroucke has promised an official sperm donor register will be in place in the country by the end of the year.
He announced the plans after concerns were raised that prolific Dutch sperm donor Jonathan M (see BioNews 1188) could have donated to women in Belgium, and contravened its law stating donors can not donate to more than six women, Brussels Times reported.
Vandenbroucke also said he wanted a 'waterproof guarantee' from international private sperm banks, including Danish bank Cryos, that they adhere to the 'six-woman rule'.
Meanwhile, Netflix has started work on a documentary about the sperm donor Jonathan M, C21 Media reported.
