Last week we published the 900th edition of BioNews, we used this landmark achievement to put out a call for donations but many of you may have missed this as there was so much reaction to a piece we published on donor conception by Professor Guido Pennings.
Here at BioNews we don't just commission, edit and publish opinion pieces and news. We read the comments posted underneath them by our readers, we respond to emails from the outraged and the offended, we liaise with leading figures who want to write an opinion piece in response, and we share pieces written elsewhere adding to the discussion via social media – but all this takes time and effort.
Facilitating debate and discussion is part of our mission – it is something we know you really value. We believe it is particularly important for those who feel that they are a minority voice, who struggle to be heard, to share their views even if we don't happen to agree with them. If we don't think about why we hold particular views and consider challenges to them, we too risk becoming blinkered. The people campaigning for the end of anonymity for sperm and egg donors were minority voices once.
Progress Educational Trust's mission is to educate and to debate the responsible application of reproductive and genetic science. This is why we need your help now – because the debate doesn't just happen, it needs our care and attention, and that takes money.
We are trying to raise just £4000 to help keep BioNews free for everyone to read, so please give what you can today via PayPal (click here), by text (text 'PROG23 £10' or any other amount to 70070), or by post (as detailed here).
