Jane Blower has been awarded an MBE in the King's Birthday Honours for services to reproductive science.
Blower is an embryologist who was the UK's first person to earn a master's degree in assisted reproduction. Over a 40-year career, she helped establish the first embryology laboratory in Leicester (now part of the Leicester Fertility Centre), and recently completed a four-year term as president of the Association of Reproductive and Clinical Scientists.
'I'm so proud of the colleagues I trained over the years, who have helped to build the flourishing service that exists in Leicester today. What is important now is that we encourage and inspire the next generation of reproductive scientists, to carry the profession forward,' she said.
She spoke at PET's event 'Robert Edwards at 100' last year. See the film in BioNews 1316.
