A memorial reception for Viscount Janric Craigavon was hosted by Lord Freyberg in the River Room in the House of Lords.
PET director, Sarah Norcross was honoured to attend this event and to pay her respects. As well as being a stalwart advocate for reproductive rights, he had a strong affiliation with Austria and the Nordic countries. He was a member of the Executive Committee of the Anglo-Austrian Society. He was made a Commander of the Order of the Lion of Finland, a Commander of the Swedish Royal Order of the Polar, and a Knight of the Danish Order of the Dannebrog. The beautiful decorations he received were displayed for people to see.
In the speeches we learned that he was the person to go to in the office if you needed something fixed. The biggest surprise was finding out that he had been a keen footballer. Everyone had stories to tell, many about his photography or his encyclopaedic knowledge of the Houses of Parliament and his legendary guided tours. Sarah shared fond memories of Janric, who was a founding trustee of PET, with members of his family. He will be much missed by past and present members of the team at PET.
