PET director Sarah Norcross was delighted to attend the 20th Birthday of Fertility Network UK. The celebration took place at the Houses of Parliament and Alex Davies Jones MP gave a welcome address.
Catherine Hill from Fertility Network UK compered the evening, and it was lovely to see an old colleague from PET take to the stage with such confidence.
There were some very moving speeches, most notably from Grace McDonald the mother of the first boy in the world to be born following IVF treatment. The 'baby' boy - Alastair gave a humorous presentation and the audience particularly enjoyed learning how he worked out he was a test tube baby by watching the news.
Sarah was reminded of a PET event some five years earlier '40 Years of IVF: Past, Present and Future' organised to mark the Alastair's 40th birthday. If you would like to find out more about Grace's story you can watch the video of the PET event on YouTube.
Another speaker was a former trustee of Fertility Network Jessica Hepburn. Jessica has written three books the first of which was The Pursuit of Motherhood. Jessica told the audience how she underwent 11 rounds of unsuccessful IVF, multiple miscarriages and a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy in a decade and how it changed her.
Sarah was delighted to meet so many PET supporters at this celebratory event. She is pictured with Stuart Lavery, Francesca Stein, James Lawford Davies, Jane Denton and Thanos Papathanasiou.
PET wishes Fertility Network UK a very Happy Birthday!
