New guidance on Ethical Issues in Prenatal Genetic Diagnosis has been published by the UK's Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine (JCGM). Sandy Starr, deputy director of PET, was a member of the working group that developed this guidance.
The guidance was launched this week at the annual conference of the British Society for Genetic Medicine (BSGM), which is one of the bodies that comprises the Joint Committee on Genomics in Medicine (alongside the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists).
The launch of the guidance was attended by Jen Willows, projects officer at PET and legal editor at BioNews.
The guidance – which can be downloaded here – aims to be accessible to a broad readership, including people who work in relevant professions and also patients. It includes 14 illustrative examples, which explore common dilemmas, and which can help to guide clinical practice.
