Sandy Starr, deputy director of PET, went to the Nuffield Council on Bioethics to participate in a workshop entitled 'Epigenetics in Human Reproduction'.
This workshop explored ethical and policy issues surrounding discoveries in, and applications of, epigenetics in relation to human reproduction.
PET has a longstanding interest in epigenetics, having produced a conference on 'The New Horizon of Epigenetics' – the first UK conference on the subject for a general audience – in 2009.
Furthermore, the patron (formerly chair of trustees) of PET – Professor Marcus Pembrey – made a number a number of important contributions to the field of epigenetics during his research career.
PET was therefore glad for this latest opportunity to discuss advances in the field, and their implications.
