Sarah Norcross, director of PET, went to Parliament to attend a drop-in event about surrogacy, which had been organised by SurrogacyUK.
The event saw surrogates, intended parents, parents through surrogacy, and a surrogate-born baby attend Parliament. Layla Moran MP hosted the event, on what turned out to be a very hot day.
Despite the soaring temperature, it was an excellent opportunity to talk about the report Surrogacy in the UK: Myth-busting and reform 10 years on which PET was involved in, together with PET Advisor Professor Kirsty Horsey, Natalie Smith, Sarah Taylor-Jones both of SurrogacyUK, and the barrister Dr Bianca Jackson. In the report we call for the reform of surrogacy law, following the work of the Law Commission of England and Wales and Scottish Law Commission and their recommendations and draft Bill published more than three years ago.
A big thank you to all those MPs and the one peer, Baroness Geeta Nargund, who dropped in (or sent staffers) to hear from and speak to surrogates, parents through surrogacy and intended parents and surrogacy expert Professor Horsey. The support shown for surrogacy by the parliamentarians attending was overwhelming.
