Theatre performances and art can often help broaden the discussion about fertility and IVF and bring in different audiences.
The Intersect Arts Collective commissioned two female artists to present their own responses to an immersive theatre piece by Veronika Duerr. The works were displayed at a community centre in Parsons Green under the title 'The Adventure of Life'.
Two artists Pid'or Tampa and Aurèlie Freoua used video, oil painting, jazz, poetry, and even latex gloves to stimulate the audience's thinking. One of the activities involved wearing the latex gloves to try and piece together some cards which depicted several different artistic impressions of female reproductive organs. This activity was very challenging and also emotive as we sat on the floor around the artist trying to put her back together.
PET director Sarah Norcross and Rebecca Trebble, who was doing work experience at PET that week, came away rather moved by the immersive experience and thought it was a real shame that the art had not attracted a larger audience.
