PET's report 'The Power of Three IVF Cycles' examined GPs' levels of knowledge about fertility services, IVF treatment, and specifically the IVF cycle.
One of the findings, that male GPs are less likely than their female colleagues to refer patients with a known cause of infertility for IVF, was the subject of an article in the Guardian.
Sarah Norcross, Director of PET was quoted as saying: 'For NHS treatment, GPs are the main initial gatekeeper. If you’re not getting pregnant, that’s who you go to for advice and support... It struck me that, when people have a known cause of infertility, male GPs still weren't passing them on.'
