Building Bridges Between Fertility Patients, Clinics and Regulators: A Collaborative Approach
The 'Building Bridges' project – led by Dr Manuela Perrotta at Queen Mary University of London, in partnership with PET – is working with clinics, regulators, patients, policymakers and others to address challenges raised by 'add-ons' to IVF treatment.
Add-ons are optional treatments, technologies or procedures offered alongside IVF – often at considerable expense to patients – which may not be supported by reliable evidence.
Despite several recent regulatory initiatives, concerns persist about the extent to which add-ons are offered and used, and about the quality of information concerning add-ons that is provided to fertility patients.
The 'Building Bridges' project has developed a Toolkit for use by patient and professional associations, clinics and regulators. This Toolkit can be downloaded here.
Several Research Digests have also been published, which summarise key findings and policy implications from the 'Building Bridges' project. The following Research Digests are available for download.
- Evidence Gaps and Information Provision in Fertility Care
- Information Provision on UK Fertility Clinic Websites
- Ensuring Cost Transparency and Fully Informed Decisionmaking
