The first parenthood show for gay and single people was held on Saturday in London. The Alternative Families Show featured seminars about fertility treatment, adoption, surrogacy and other options for starting a family. Legal rights, schooling and other social issues were also covered. Exhibitors included Adoption UK, New Family Social and the Birmingham Women's Fertility Centre.
The show aimed to support existing and prospective 'alternative' families. A children's entertainer was on hand to amuse children while parents toured the show. The first 100 delegates on the day received a rubber duck.
Same-sex parents network Littlepink and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) publishing group Square Peg Media organised the event. The London Women's Clinic sponsored the show, which was held at Covent Garden's Grand Connaught Rooms.
