The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has published a new set of frequently asked questions (FAQs) about unregulated sperm donation following increased media attention on the issue.
The guidance addresses legal, medical and practical risks associated with sperm donation arranged outside licensed fertility clinics, including through social media platforms and private online groups.
The FAQ page also explains how UK law distinguishes between regulated and unregulated donation, including circumstances in which a sperm donor could be recognised as a legal parent.
The publication follows ongoing public discussion around informal sperm donation and online donor networks in the UK.
The FAQ page is available on the HFEA's website here.
