The Health Ministry in India has published details concerning the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, which came into force in India on 25 January and banned commercial surrogacy.
They outline that single embryo transfer will be required as standard, except in exceptional circumstances, that surrogates will be able to access abortion and that couples opting to use a surrogate in India must pay for her health insurance for a period of three years.
Surrogacy will be available to women who are unable to carry a pregnancy for medical reasons, the Hindu newspaper explained.
