An Alabama woman was successfully treated for kidney cancer, after it was detected by a routine prenatal test.
Heidi Neas had a non-invasive prenatal test (NIPT) to check for abnormalities in her baby's genome. An unusual result, in conjunction with family history, prompted an ultrasound scan, which showed a large tumour on her kidney.
The mass was removed surgically, and she went on to have a healthy pregnancy.
