Two lecturers from Leiden University, the Netherlands, wrote in Leidsch Dagblad that new legislation is crucially needed to make commissioning parents the legal parents of their surrogate children at birth.
Transfer of parenthood can take up to two years, with surrogates needing to give permission for anything to do with the child, including medical decisions and holidays.
