Research presented at the European Society of Human Genetics annual conference indicates that people with lower socioeconomic status are more likely to develop diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, lung cancer, depression, alcohol use disorder and type 2 diabetes. Whereas those with a higher socioeconomic status are more at risk of developing all cancers.
Scientists at the University of Helsinki, Finland, used polygenic risk scores, which measure an individual's risk of a particular disease based on genetic information, on data obtained from approximately 280,000 Finnish individuals.
