In BioNews 349, we published a commentary on the proposed new Spanish law on assisted reproduction, by Anna Veiga of the Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Barcelona, Spain. Due to an editing error, we may have given the impression that the new legislation will permit the creation of embryos for research - this is NOT the case. The relevant section has now been amended, to read: 'Frozen embryos created either before or after the law was changed in 2003 can now be donated for research. The creation of embryos for research is banned, and carries a penalty of 1-5 years in prison'. We apologise for any misunderstanding this mistake might have caused.
