In England, there is a huge disparity in NHS-funded fertility treatment across the country, with very few patients able to access the three full cycles of IVF recommended by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). To address this, PET has launched the Power of Three IVF Cycles campaign, which seeks to draw attention to – and ultimately end – the IVF postcode lottery.

Changes to Integrated Care Boards

A series of changes are in process or are planned which will see a decrease in the number of ICBs.
Six new ICBs will be established across England through the abolition of 12 existing ICBs and mergers taking place, and one existing ICB will have its boundaries changed. These changes were announced by the Department of Health and Social Care on 1 April 2026, the target date for the closure of the old ICBs is 30 September 2026. The merger of ICBs may result in the harmonisation of fertility policies within the new areas leaving a single policy in place. PET will keep you updated.

There are plans for further ICB mergers and boundary changes to come into effect on 1 April 2027.
