Dr Malena Daich Varela is a Volunteer Writer at BioNews, having originally joined under the auspices of its writing scheme. She is an ophthalmologist specialised in ophthalmic genetics and qualified as a medical doctor and ophthalmologist at the University of Buenos Aires, Argentina. Malena completed a fellowship in ophthalmic genetics at the National Institutes of Health.
