The London Fertility Forum promised the opportunity to hear from leading
fertility experts on the safe and evidence-based management of couples with infertility. It didn't disappoint.
Dr Bassel Wattar, (pictured above) who organised the event, kindly invited PET to exhibit. Director Sarah Norcross and deputy director Sandy Starr attended and spent the evening listening to talks and chatting to patients and fertility professionals.
Dr Rima Dhillon-Smith gave us the latest evidence on recurrent pregnancy loss and shared some changes to the patient pathway following miscarriage which she hopes will be rolled out across England to improve patient care.
'Weight loss for fertility - what makes a difference?' was the theme of the presentation by Dr Ali Abbara. He explained why increased weight can cause fertility problems and how losing even modest amounts of weight can help.
'Should you opt for additional IVF add-ons?' was the title of Dr Wattar's talk. He outlined the pros and cons - highlighting the cons with an image of a gravestones naming different add-ons. He also spoke about the AFFINITY project which aims to develop a protocol for a full-scale randomised trial that will offer robust evidence on the safety and efficacy of a number of IVF add-ons. PET has been involved with this project.
The evening was nicely rounded off with talks from Kelly da Silva and Kate Brian talking about patient support and the services provided by the Fertility Alliance.
Thank you to Dr Wattar for arranging the London Fertility Forum, we really enjoyed taking part.
