This year the annual meeting of the working group on the emergence, commercialisation and implications of PReconception Expanded CArrier Screening (PRECAS) took place at De Montfort University, Leicester. PET director Sarah Norcross travelled up there by train to take part.
Professor Cathy Herbrand from the Centre for Reproduction Research at the university is leading the PRECAS project.
Joining the PRECAS working group in Leicester were Professor Zosia Miedzybrodzka, Professor Nicky Hudson, Professor Lorraine Culley, Dr Kriss Fearon and Professor Pascal Borry, who works at the Centre for Biomedical Ethics and Law at University of Leuven.
We were joined online by working group members Dr Eva Van Steijvoort and Professor Bronwyn Parry.
The research conducted under the PRECAS study has generated such interesting findings that deciding what to publish and/or present and where was a daunting task. Two days of generating and refining ideas for a number of academic papers and presentations called for a lot of tea and a lot of snacks! But suitably sustained we ploughed on until the team had what they needed from the working group.
Luckily, some of the findings from the PRECAS project will be presented at the PET Annual Conference 'What Does Genomics Mean for Fertility Treatment?' on 10 December 2025. For all the details please visit the event page.
