The Sunday Times magazine featured a seven-page report by Rosie Taylor in which she explored how the UK's fertility clinics are running out of room to store their patients' cryopreserved embryos.
As well as discussing the problem of where to store growing numbers of embryos, the article revealed that in 2021 only 185 embryos were donated to research. Sarah Norcross, director of PET was quoted in relation to embryo research saying 'Present arrangements are so cumbersome that clinics are perversely disincentivised from enabling such donations...These embryos are a precious resource for scientific resource.'
PET held an event earlier this year entitled 'When to Stop Storage: Improving Conversations About Unused Embryos', if you are interested in this issue then you can listen to PET's podcast of the event here.
