A group of genes has been identified that is responsible for increasing a person's risk of developing rheumatoid arthritis.
Scientists from the University of Edinburgh analysed genetic data from 450,000 people in the UK Biobank. Publishing their results in Arthritis and Rheumatology, the scientists found 16 genes linked to rheumatoid arthritis, six of which are known to cause immune problems when faulty.
Healthcare News Scotland Limited report the findings.
