Genetic variants that determine tooth shape have been identified by an international team co-led by UCL researchers.
People of European descent who have a gene variant inherited from Neanderthals have thinner incisors and smaller teeth than people from other ethnicities, a study in Current Biology has found.
The international team identified 18 genome regions that influence tooth size and shape, 17 of which had not previously been known to influence tooth dimensions, Phys Org reported.
