A new organoid that mimics the human fetal pancreas has been developed. It is the first time that a complete structure has been able to fully mimic all three pancreatic cell types, and to perform their expected functions.
The research, published in Cell, also revealed a crucial difference between mouse and human pancreatic development – the presence of a protein LGR5 which marks stem cells across different tissues.
