A new genomic test being piloted by the NHS could reduce the time needed to diagnose brain tumours from several weeks to hours, according to The Guardian.
The test was developed by researchers at the University of Nottingham and uses nanopore sequencing to analyse DNA from a small sample of tumour tissue taken during surgery.
The NHS is initially piloting the test at five specialist centres: Nottingham University Hospitals, University Hospitals Birmingham, Great Ormond Street Hospital, London, King's College Hospital, London, and Newcastle Hospitals. The programme is expected to expand to additional centres in Bristol, Oxford, Leeds and Manchester.
