Researchers in Italy have developed patient-derived organoids to study paediatric brain tumours and support drug discovery.
The study was led by scientists at the University of Trento, Italy, in collaboration with Bambino Gesù Children's Hospital in Rome, Italy. The team generated three-dimensional tumour models, known as patient-derived organoids, from biopsy samples.
According to the researchers, the model provides a platform for pharmacological screening, allowing multiple therapies to be tested in vitro without direct experimentation on patients.
The findings were published in Nature Protocols.
