When the US Supreme Court released its decision on Friday 24 June 2022 regarding Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organisation, overturning the landmark Roe v. Wade ruling, a number of trigger laws were already in place in a number of states which are due to come into effect almost immediately (see BioNews 1147).
While at least one of these, in Oklahoma, seeks to define life as beginning at fertilisation, the Washington Post advises that the trigger laws were not written with reducing access to IVF and fertility treatment in mind.
