Someone who came to our 'Giving: The Gamete Donor Perspective' event this week very kindly brought some mince pies for us. She brought 30 mince pies. I gave two boxes away to stalwart volunteers. But this generous gift posed a problem - there are only two of us in the office full time and I had three boxes left.
This thoughtful lady's gift highlights a common misconception about Progress Educational Trust, people think we are a much larger organisation than we are. This is because with the equivalent of just three full time employees we carry out a heck of a lot, punching well above our weight.
We couldn't achieve all this without our volunteers — the BioNews writers and those who help out in the office — a huge thank you to you all.
You, our BioNews readers, are also key to our success. Without the donations, large and small, made by you we wouldn't be able to continue. It is your donations which help us survive between project grants and other fluctuations in funding. We need your help more than ever — belt tightening by other funders means that every penny you can donate is vital.
We urgently need to raise £10,000 with our Christmas Appeal.
Please make a difference today by texting 'PROG23 £10' (or any other amount) to 70070, or by donating via PayPal on our website.
If you can't afford to donate but are still buying gifts on Amazon please make sure you access Amazon's website via this link or via the logo on the right of the BioNews homepage. Doing so will ensure that Amazon donates money to PET for every item you buy, while the products you receive and the price you pay will be the exactly the same.
And if you are wondering what happened to the other two boxes of mince pies, we phoned our friends at the Association of Medical Research Charities and they were more than happy to solve our problem!
Merry Christmas!
